Originally from Dublin Ireland where John was Head of Production for a major Advertising Agency. He moved to San Francisco in 1992 to work in Advertising and in 1994 he founded and opened One Union Recording Studios.
More recently John worked with famed studio designer Carl Yanchar to design 5 New State of the Art Recording Studios in One Unions Beautiful historical San Francisco red-bricked building.
In September 2017 under his guidance One Union completely rebuilt the entire facility down to the wires and back again designing a totally new facility that was completed in September 2018.
Since 2010 John has also served on the Board of Directors of SFFW San Francisco Fleet Week, John is an avid collector of Tequila and a Tequila Master.
Jaylen is a singer-songwriter-musician who has made her way back home to the Bay Area after 15 years of adventure. She brings over a decade of professional managerial experience to One Union and loves being in a studio surrounded by the magic of recording and all its moving parts. When not singing, managing, or traveling, Jaylen enjoys tacos and good conversation with friends, and she is a proud member of the One Union team.
Joaby Deal started working at One Union just months after it opened its doors in 1995. He came on as an intern and rose through the ranks to assistant, and eventually Senior Engineer. At this point, he’s been at One Union for more than half of his life! When asked how he feels about working at one place for so long, Joaby says, “I kind of grew up here; it’s like a second home to me. To be honest, I really can’t imagine working anywhere else.”
Originally from Kentucky, the hint of southern accent is easy to notice. Joel started his career in the music industry as a recording engineer. Opening his first studio to record local bands which evolved into working with several major artist and labels. His passion for film production led him into commercial production. In 2014, He re-located to the Bay Area and focused his efforts solely on commercial work. In 2017, Joel joined the award-winning advertising agency Pereira Odell. He helped build out their production company Barrel House. He worked as an editor and recording engineer for clients like Adobe, Cheesecake Factory, Clorox, Fifth Third Bank, Stella, and Mini. Joel has vast experience from both an editorial and mixing perspective. This experience gives him a unique sense of how timing, sound design, and dynamics work together to convey a story and make the viewer buy-in. After spending over ten years in Los Angeles, Andy relocated to his favorite city to further his audio career. Since his interview and acceptance of a position at One Union all in one day, the diversity of his job is something he values very much. “I’ve always been a tech head, I learn the gear from back to front. That’s my passion. With One Union’s constant gear upgrades I get to play with new gear all the time.” he says. “I love to work with cutting edge technology and share with our clients the highest quality audio available today.” Wearing many hats, Andy has been hard at work designing, programming and upgrading all the studios at One Union, but is still highly committed to his engineering work. He especially looks forward to recording ADR and AVO for films and TV shows such as The Orient Express, Somebody’s Gotta Do It, Silicon Valley, and Deadliest Catch with Mike Rowe. Andy has been creating awesome work for clients such as Honda, Chevron, Warriors, Juniper Systems, Dockers and The Bay Club to name a few.
An accomplished Sound Designer and Mixer, Matt brings over 15 years of wide-ranging projects to One Union Recording Studios. After graduating from Expressions College, he spent nearly a decade at Crescendo Studios as an audio engineer before deciding to make his move into freelance work. Low and behold, One Union fell onto his radar for freelance projects, and after a couple of years, he decided to join the studio staff full-time. His work has encompassed recording, talent direction, sound design, editing, mixing, ADR, foley, and facility consultation. On his favorite part of the job, Matt loves all the ins and outs that working with audio gives him on a daily basis. He says, “I enjoy having new types of projects every day, recording and building custom sound effects and sound design and mixing.” Matt’s most recent work on projects for Levi’s and Google were big hits and top-viewed ads in 2017.
A Bay Area Native, Eduardo knew he wanted a career audio from early age. He began at Polarity Post Production in 2003, one day after graduating from Expressions College in Emeryville. After over 11 years, he joined the talent team at Pandora/SiriusXM in Oakland. There he helped shape the audio advertising department and designed three studios, which furthered the client advertising quality and output. After 4 plus years he found himself at Facebook, working with a great team doing Audio Post Production and various audio projects. Eduardo is very excited to be apart of One Union Recording, its amazing staff, and the historic neighborhood where he started his career.
Michael received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Sound Recording Technology & Music Business from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and secured an internship at One Union; flying across country to start his professional career. After completing his internship, and after taking a brief hiatus, Michael has returned to One Union as the Assistant Engineer. Most avid about audio post production, Michael is excited to be back and surrounded by world class engineers and facilities.
